Psychologists & Clinical Psychologists are experts in mental health. They have specialised training in the diagnosis and psychological treatment of emotional and behavioural difficulties, and Clinical psychologists do not prescribe medication. Instead, they will help you to identify and overcome the unhelpful patterns of behaviour and/or thinking that are making you feel “stuck”.

This can allow you to do the things that are most important to you, to live a life that’s consistent with your values, and have tools to manage any future difficulties that may arise. They will work with you to gain an understanding of your specific issues and develop a management plan that is tailored to your unique situation.

Move for Better Health is home to NLC Psychology, who provides treatment for psychological difficulties, including:

What is involved in seeing a Psychologist?

Each appointment will be 50-60mins in duration. During the first appointment, the psychologist will ask for information about the difficulties that you are experiencing, and may also ask you to complete written questionnaires. This information will help the psychologist to determine the best treatment approach for you.

Subsequent appointments are usually held once per week for a few weeks, with exercises to complete between sessions. The total number of sessions required will depend on your individual circumstances.

Do I need a referral?

You do not need a referral to see a psychologist. However, if you are eligible for a Mental Health Treatment Plan (available from a GP), then you may be able to claim a Medicare rebate for your sessions. Talk to your GP for more information.
