Mums & Bubs Pilates Mat Classes.

The early postpartum period can be very physically demanding. Your body is recovering from pregnancy and birth, and many of the postural changes of pregnancy may persist, even 3 months postpartum. As well as that, you may be lifting, carrying and bending a lot more than ever before, all on minimal sleep! Many women feel like their bodies need a hand to “get back in shape” and manage these various demands.

Our Mums and Bubs Pilates Classes are ideal for this. Based on traditional Pilates principles, yet suitably tailored for the various postpartum dysfunctions which may be present, these classes allow you to return to exercise safely, without leaving your baby in childcare.

Classes focus on restoring suitable “core control” through the Abdominal wall and Pelvic Floor muscles, and exercise level can be easily modified to accommodate varying abilities. Classes also work on postural support muscles and flexibility in the upper back (a common source of postpartum pain) as well as strength work for the upper and lower body, to make the bending and lifting tasks of motherhood easier.

Best of all, your baby is welcome in class! Babies generally enjoy some mat time, or may sleep, while you exercise. Your baby is not used as an exercise “prop” – this is your time to do something for yourself. Classes are relaxed and fun, and are conducted by Physiotherapists with experience in the Pilates method and postpartum care.

How to Book

Your body goes through drastic changes during a pregnancy, so even if you have prior experience in Pilates we do require a 1:1 Assessment with a Physiotherapist.

In this session, the Physiotherapist will discuss how you can to safely return to exercise after pregnancy, any issues you may be having, and any exercise goals you wish to achieve. This assessment also allows you to privately discuss any antenatal issues you may be experiencing.

Mums can begin classes from 6 weeks after the birth of their baby.
