How often have you wanted to (or have been advised to) make health related changes, like start an exercise regime, lose weight, start a meditation habit, or even do the exercises recommended by your physio but never been able to really get started?
We may even start well, but find we are unable to maintain these changes in the longer term. We now know that simply knowing what you should be doing is often not enough for that information to then translate into action. Health Coaching can help you make lifestyle and health changes in the short and long term.
Physiotherapist, Marelle Wilson, has trained with Health Change Australia (HCA), to provide Health Coaching Services at Move for Better Health™.
The HCA Model of Change is a system of evidence-based behaviour change principles and techniques to assist people to make lasting change for better health outcomes.
Working with Marelle to determine a structured approach to improving your health can help identify, clearly articulate and prioritise your health-related issues. It can also help you to build confidence and motivation to make a plan for small, manageable changes that are more likely to ‘stick’ in the long term.
Marelle is particularly interested in working with people with chronic pain, but this model can be used successfully for a wide range of health issues, including chronic illness management.
An initial assessment for Health Coaching is usually 45 minutes in length, with 30 minute subsequent sessions. Depending on your issue, these appointments are usually spread out over several weeks, and even months, with the focus on finding ways for you to be totally independent, and able to manage your health issue confidently.
