David (Dave) Heyneman is a Physiotherapist with special interest and experience in working with recreational and elite athletes. He also works with people before and after they have surgery, to facilitate their recovery and return to activity or performance.
Dave’s interest in allied health, and Physiotherapy in particular, developed from a young age after competing in volleyball with the SA Institute of Sport. He experienced the benefits of seeing a Physio first hand for his own injury management and prevention, and pursued this career in order to share the benefits of allied health with others.
With Physiotherapy as his ultimate career goal, Dave obtained a Bachelor of Human Movement as well as a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Exercise Physiology as a way to start working in the allied health industry. Even prior to commencing his Physiotherapy career, Dave was working with the Port Adelaide Football Club, West Adelaide Football Club and Port Adelaide Magpies in strength and conditioning.
Since completing his Physiotherapy qualification, Dave has been working with one of Adelaide’s leading sports physiotherapy practices. He has helped people including Olympic, national and state level athletes, as well as the average person experiencing muscle or joint issues.
In addition to his interest in sports, Dave also has a strong background in Orthopaedics. He has worked with many clients preparing for or recovering from ACL and ankle reconstructions, hip, foot and shoulder surgeries, as well as complex lower limb injuries. He particularly enjoys working with clients to rehabilitate their ACL reconstructions, as it is often a long process from day 0 to return to sport.
Dave has more recently returned to study a Masters of Sports Physiotherapy, to further develop his skills and experience in this field. He’s due to finish his Masters towards the end of 2020.
Outside of work, Dave is married with his first baby about to arrive! He loves living near the beach, but does sometimes miss the Adelaide Hills where he was based for most of his life. Dave continued to play volleyball at state level until his mid-20’s, and now plays Polocrosse in his spare time, when he’s not studying.
