McKenzie Physiotherapy, or to use it’s correct name, Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT), is an approach for the management of spinal and extremity problems.
MDT is a reliable process for the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, which encourages active client involvement and participation in the management of their complaint.
What is McKenzie Physiotherapy?
It is one of the most studied and recognised philosophies of assessment and treatment.
It uses repeated movements and sustained postures to identify and classify client’s symptoms. This allows the clinician to understand the mechanical behaviour of the symptoms and apply the appropriate treatment strategy.
MDT places an emphasis on the client being able to successfully treat and manage their problem independently. This allows for greater independence as well as the ability to nip future problems in the bud.
MDT still involves ‘hands on’ or manual therapy when necessary, such as to accelerate recovery or help when progress plateaus.
